WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN REPLACING A FIRE DOOR?
A Fire Door is a technical product, therefore it falls under different regulations to standard internal doors.
A simple like for like replacement from ‘high street sheds’ is almost unheard of, hence 99% of the doors we replace are classed as bespoke.

FIRE DOOR REPLACEMENT CHECKLIST
- Fire Rating – All hardware will have certain standards associated, and the door specification as a whole will have minimum thresholds depending on the requirements e.g. FD30, FD60, Fire & Smoke, Fire & Acoustic.
- Architectural Style – There will also be non-compliance related guidelines associated, such as architectural requirements, and in some cases, limitations due to being a listed / heritage building.
- Security – Physical attack and other door automation / access control systems.
- Limitations – Each environment has its own unique challenges. For instance, a health care environment will be different to that of a factory.
BM TRADA Q-MARK 3RD PARTY CERTIFIED REPLACEMENT
- UKAS regulate and accredit BM Trada Q-Mark to monitor companies such as POYNTELL.
- POYNTELL are certified by BM Trada Q-Mark to carry out installations, maintenance and surveying of Fire Doors. This therefore makes us 3rd party Certified to replace Fire Doors.
- We were the 3rd company in the whole of the UK to be certified under the BM Trada Q-Mark scheme for both installation and maintenance of Fire Doors, followed by a further certification in Fire Stopping.
- The three certifications combined enable us to provide a turnkey system for Fire Door Installation, Maintenance, Surveying and associated Fire Stopping works.
FIRE DOOR HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
Whilst it’s impossible to lay out all the variants of the hardware required for a Fire Door, the following hardware categories should be considered: Leaf, Seals, Closers, Hinges, Locking & Access Control, Vision Panels, Automation, Push to Exit Buttons / Fire Systems, Emergency lighting, Signage and Hold Open Devices.
